Ballary Marvels features the drawings of Ellen Lanyon and the poems of Lynne Warren. This collaborative effort, inspired by the unique objects collected by the distinguished painter and graphic artist Ellen Lanyon, juxtaposes her drawings of these objects with Lynne Warren's poems written in the "nonsense" tradition. This tradition includes nursery rhymes and has been practiced by such beloved writers as Lewis Carroll, Edward Lear, Ogden Nash, Roald Dahl, and Dr. Seuss. Lanyon's delightful pen-and-ink drawings are from her Herculean project "Index" which records over 300 of her quirky collectables that range from ashtray bulldogs to zippered frogs. Warren's verse was written in response to her viewings of the objects, and in consideration of a spent Chinese firework in the shape of a pagoda, include: " Hey pagoda! Rolled o-va All exploda? Poor pagoda...." Lynne Warren is a longtime curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. Ballary Marvels has been published in a limited edition of 1,000 copies. INDEX Press, 24 pages, 10 x 8.5 inches. 2009.
