David Lang's death speaks draws its initial inspiration from Schubert's Death and the Maiden. The five-part work features Shara Worden (My Brightest Diamond), Bryce Dessner (The National), Owen Pallett (Final Fantasy) and Nico Muhly, and was produced by Bryce Dessner. The companion piece depart was commissioned as part of a permanent installation for the morgue in the Raymond Poincaré Hospital outside Paris, and features multi-tracked cellos by Maya Beiser.
