Accompanying the exhibition dedicated to Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) by the Louis Vuitton Foundation, this book reproduces all of the some 120 works presented. This selection of decisive works allows exposure to the entire career of the artist, making this publication a reference monograph. The existential character of Basquiat is one of the threads identified by Dieter Buchhart, curator of the exhibition and author of the book.

The preface by Suzanne Pagé and the texts of Okwui Enwezor, Olivier Michelon, Francesco Pellizzi, Jordana Moore Saggese, Paul Schimmel and Franklin Sirmans provide additional insight into Basquiat’s art. The authors focus on the construction and current events of landmark works in the history of 20th century art. They deal with topics that run through it while placing it in a critical and historical perspective necessary for its understanding.
