Nicole Hollander, page from Me, can I be a feminist and still men?, 1980. 8.25 x 5.25 in. ©1980 Nicole Hollander.

Sex, cats, food, politics, and freedom are the inspirations for lifelong Chicagoan Nicole Hollander’s Sylvia, a nationally syndicated cartoon from 1980 to 2012. In the boys-only culture of 1970s Chicago comics, Hollander got her start in the feminist magazine, Spokeswoman. In the 1980s and nineties, Hollander’s scathing critiques of hypocrisy and sexism were interwoven with tender and hilarious riffs on the many pleasure of life with cats. Her work has been archived in the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library at Ohio State University, alongside Roz Chast's, Bill Watterson's, and other greats. She has published fifteen books, and blogs at badgirlchats.com. She lives in Chicago.
All proceeds from the MCA Store support the exhibitions and programs of the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.
